By WENDELL MINNICK

A-LIEN, Taiwan — Taiwan’s 564 Armor Brigade simulated a response to an attack by Chinese special forces Jan. 23 in Kaohsiung County. Elements of the 564 deployed to defend Tagunshan mountain, the site of an Air Force radar station next to the base, with an “enhanced armor battalion.”

The Army fielded a number of CM-11 main battle tanks, CM-21 and M-113 armored personal carriers (APC), two AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopters and one OH-58D helicopter.

The CM-11 has an M-48 turret and M-60 body. The brigade has three battalions consisting of 132 CM-11 tanks, plus one armored infantry battalion consisting of CM-21 and M-113 APCs. The simulation successfully repelled an enemy attack and secured the radar facility.
